52 Red Dresses Blog - Week 4 Morgan Beatrice Harris
Morgan Beatrice Harris age 39 from Long Plain First Nation was described as having a fierce spirit and a person who would stand up for what she believed was right. Morgan loved her family fiercely and did her absolute best to show her grandmother and children that despite her struggles from intergenerational trauma and pain she could find her strength too. Her cousin shared that despite everything she remained at her core a good person who was loyal and kind.
Morgan was last seen in Winnipeg on May 1st 2022 and it is believed she died soon after making her the second victim of an alleged serial killer who took the lives of 3 other indigenous women.
On December 2nd 2022 the police stated that they believed the remains of Morgan and another indigenous woman were buried in the Prairie Green Landfill and despite ongoing protests and petitions no one has tried to recover their remains to provide their families with closure and allow them burial ceremonies.
Morgan’s daughters feel that not searching for their mother is yet another indication that indigenous lives, their lives, do not matter.
Indigenous women are not garbage and a landfill is not a final resting place fit for anyone.
With Love,
Willow
