Linda Singer - The Art of Colouring books

When I was around 6 or 7 years old I entered an art contest through my elementary school for a local town’s winter carnival.

I drew a picture of a duck skiing down a hill and much to my surprise it won! Winning the art contest was gratifying enough but the prize was even better…a colouring book unlike anything I had ever seen!

A colouring book I have treasured all my life and still have in my possession. This colouring book was beyond special and even then as young as I was, I understood that.

I was presented with an adult colouring book illustrated by a local artist named Linda Singer.

The illustrations were a huge contrast to the simple drawings in the children's colouring books I was used to.

Singer’s illustrations were completely different and I was entranced by the artwork this book contained.

I was both excited and overjoyed to colour in it, but also at times in too much awe and even intimidated to dare make a mark on the beautiful pages.

I remember spending many cherished hours coloring in that book and others I had been gifted later in my life by the same artist throughout my childhood.

These books called The Art of Coloring opened a door in my mind to dare to dream of one day making my own coloring books.

Linda Singer has moved from Sutton, Quebec to Toronto, Ontario, where she is still creating art and selling her work.

She remains a huge inspiration to me and is who I have dedicated my first published colouring book to.
