Rebecca Contois
52 Red Dresses - Week 3
Rebecca Contois, age 24, was a member of O-chi-Chak-Ko-Sipi First Nation. She was a bright and friendly mother and loved ones would describe her as having a good sense of humour.
Rebecca was one of four indigenous women believed to have been murdered by an alleged Winnipeg serial killer in 2002. She is believed to have been his last victim, however her remains were the first to be found.
Part of Rebecca’s remains were found around some rubbish bins near an apartment building on May 16 2002. On May 19th more of her remains were found in the Brady Road Landfill.
It was found that her alleged serial killer portrayed himself with many far right extremist ideals including misogyny, anti-semitism and white supremesist behaviours.
Thus far out of the four victims, only Rebecca’s remains have been found.
